Fashion Influences From Breakfast At Tiffany's.

A discussion of fashion and film is incomplete without including the iconic 1960s movie Breakfast at Tiffany's. A movie that influenced the fashion trends of the time. Breakfast at Tiffany's was adapted for the screen from Truman Capote’s 1958 best-selling novella. This movie was around a era where fashion was chic and classy, a sophisticated style for cocktail parties complete with of course diamonds.

Fashion designer Hubert Givenchy and costume designer Edith Head created the icon garment styles throughout the movie and achieved great success. The combined genius of Hubert Givenchy and Edith Head resulted not only in the actress Audrey Hepburn's elevation to iconic status and stardom but also the ensembles she wore during the film have became as recognisable as the actress herself today.

The film continues to influence fashion and beauty today, even fifty years after its release to the big screen. Its influence in the fashion world is seen constantly in the form of “classic style” which was a huge trend to evolve after the films depute.

Audrey Hepburn's famous Givenchy dress was made of Italian black satin, fitted at the waist. The greatest emphasis in the film’s costuming was placed on accessories. In the opening scene accessories are as famous as the dress, the Oliver Goldsmith sunglasses, long black opera gloves, the miniature tiara and multi-layer pearl necklace have been associated with the film and Audrey ever since.

This style is seen in Ted Bakers winter 2014 collection.
