Fashion Influences From The Royal Tenenbaums.

The Royal Tenenbaums released in 2001 is a American comedy about a middle class family. Fashion and garments featured are from the 1970s in this movie featuring lacoste tennis dresses, fur coats, vintage bags and barrettes.

 A key stylish character in this movie is Margot Tenenbaum, her style is all about retro sportswear and vintage mixed together. She features a Fendi fur coat throughout the film and often wears a tennis dress. For fashion she made dressing down fashionable.

The costume designer was Karen Patch who took inspiration from the sixties and seventies to create the stylist fashion throughout the movie.

Another style to appear from a character in the movie is the printed shirts worn by Eli Cash, who in his first appearance in the movie we see him wearing a collection of tacky garments, usually bold patterned shirts. Although now unlike 2001 these patterned shirts are back in fashion and all over the high street.

Fashion Influences From Elizabeth.

The 1998 film Elizabeth us based in the 16th century England in a time of majestic opulence, golden details and embedded jewels. In the 16th century the social class of a person was very important and this included the which garments you wore, it was illegal for people of a lesser class to wear certain colours and no one could dress more lavish than the Queen herself.

Elizabeth's gowns in the 16th century were in fact slightly masculine for her time, the bodices of her high necked gowns were V shaped, which hid Elizabeth's chest and created a more manly body type. Men's garments at the time featured strong shoulder lines and bold neck details, all of which are seen in Elizabeth's wardrobe.

Gold-threaded garments with colourful embroidery on the finest silks were popular. Ornate designs and embossed surfaces on garments were details that defined this fashion.

The fashion influences from this era are often seen around Christmas today, the so called party season, when everyone dresses to impress, sparkly eye catching fashion is in again.

2013 saw a revival of this fashion with the runways full of opulent, embellished garments. Designer Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen created the opulent 2013 collection that had many of the features from this era present.

Fashion Influences From Bonnie and Clyde.

The real life criminals Bonnie and Clyde from the 1930s hit the big screen in 1967 but the fashion had a slight seventies feel featuring berets, tweed and fine knits.

For costume designer Theadore Van Runkle, this was her first movie as a costume designer. For 1930s fashion the glamour was pinstripes, mid skirts and berets.

A big fashion trend to hit the high street after this picture was the revival of the beret, in France more than double beret's were produced after the pictures release. The beret had originally been popular in the 1930s being worn by American women but had fallen out of fashion since.

The fashion worn by Bonnie and Clyde had to be liveable, given there occupation on the road, sleeping in cars and the ability to be able to run at a moments notice meant that clothing for them was comfortable and not constricting, making it popular with the mass market, in 1930 and today.

Fashion label Akris have a collection for 2014 fall with influences of this era present.

Fashion Influences From Back To The Future

The iconic 1955 film, Back To The Future features mermaid-style, shiny skirts and teddy boy tux jackets. Ocean coloured teal and sequin prom dresses were all the rave in this futuristic movie.

Deborah Lynn Scott was the lead costume designer for the first back to the future movie and created the classic Marty Mcfly look, double denim, a checked shirt and of course high topped trainers. To complete the look add a sleeveless parka and a visor and you have one stylish Marty Mcfly!

Fashion Influences From Batman: The Dark Knight Rises.

Batman The Dark Knight Rises is the most successful of the Batman trilogy and has grossed millions in profits since its release to the big screen.  Originally created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger from DC comics the iconic superhero has gone on to have several movies and television shows created about him, he has also made a stir in the fashion world by possibly being the best dressed hero of all time.

When the hero is not suited up he is seen in Giorgio Armani suits, the costume designer for the movie Lindy Hemming contacted the designer and worked together to create all of the hero's outfits during the production. The same style is seen in the hero's day-wear, featuring simple but well tailored suits, clean fitted trousers and fitted jackets, creating an old money feel to the outfits.

Fashion Influences From Clueless.

The cult classic Clueless was a huge hit in the 90s and was originally based loosely on the Jane Austen's novel Emma. Based in Beverly Hills, the main star lives in a fashion obsessed world wearing the popular trends of the time including the alaia mini dress, knee high sport socks. When we think clueless we think fashion.

The film was back in the spotlight lately with the rapper Iggy Azalea's music video being inspired by the film in her new single. Proving the film still creates influences today in fashion trends with the use of bright colours and of course who could forget the bright yellow tartan two piece.

The costume designer for the film was Mona May who channelled an ultra feminine look to contradict the grunge style that was big in the 90s.

Influences in recent fashion can be seen right from the high street to the runway. Versace's 2013 collection and Moschino 2014 collection all feature influences of this iconic hit.

Fashion Influences From Marie Antoinette.

Pretty pastels, winter floral's and crystals were some key fashion styles in Marie Antoinette's 1760s wardrobe. Her life was portrayed in a 2006 movie by Kirsten Dunst playing the lady herself.

Marie is known as a huge fan of fashion and a trend setter of her time, she is known for her extravagant spending on clothes, parties and accessories. Garments favoured by Marie were low cut at the chest and as her time in court grew over the years her garments grew wider at the hips and more lavish.

Marie's style can be imitated easily today with adding lavish accessories to any outfits, or wearing patterned and detail garments. Tight figure hugging garments are a alternative fashion to this extreme look, showing off a women's natural curves and body shape, curves that Marie's opulent garments emphasised to the extreme with the use of corsets and under skirts.

Chanel created a collection in 2013 using Marie Antoinette as inspiration.
